Pre-Injection of Some Holiday Cheer
I love the smell of the holidays. The fragrance of fresh pine, baked goods, chocolate, mint, and vanilla mixed with other tasteful treats that linger in the air. It is not only on the actual day, but also the preparation before the gatherings is in the atmosphere. The sound of music penetrates our mind digging deep into our memories of happy thoughts. Could that be why people seem more loving this time of the year? The holidays have a happiness that brings you back to what it was like as a child and the excitement of the world around you.
As I look forward to the holiday cheer, I think of loved ones who are no longer with us. How things change and keep moving forward. Remembering past holidays and knowing how important it is to enjoy the event that is happening now. By living in the moment and being present to what is happening around us today.
We have changed how we receive our Christmas items as well as how we shop. It is exciting to see what the future has instore for us to enjoy together as family. We now can eat together as a family, while being in separate places on video chat. Just think no one needs to be alone for the holiday due to sickness, transportation, work, or travel expenses.
I am not too keen on the gift giving or receiving aspect of the holidays. I drench myself into the free stuff like music, lights, and gatherings. It reminds me of when you had to wait to watch a special movie before VCR tapes came along and we had no such thing as the internet. Once a year it made it special to watch the Wizard of OZ. The whole town would make special plans to settle in and watch together. The holidays make it special to me because it only comes once a year. Electrical candles in the window give off a glow of light that says hello and flashing lights in yards give an exciting warm cozy energetic feel.
Family and friends make the holidays, gathering once a year to catch up with one another's life, helping to keep the strong ties tight. These are special moments to remembered and talked about around the dinner tables for many years to come.
